US Steel removes sexual harassment suit to federal court
US Steel removed a case to federal court that accuses it of overlooking an employee’s alleged sexual harassment. US Steel filed a notice of removal to the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois on June 10 through attorney Sarah Hugg-Turner of Lashly & Baer in St. Louis. The defendant claims removal is proper because of the amount in controversy and diversity of citizenship. Madison County alleges immunity and seeks to dismiss a mother’s lawsuit claiming she and her baby were injured when she fell into a manhole. Argosy Casino in Alton denied liability in a woman’s lawsuit alleging she was burned when she spilled complimentary hot coffee on her hand, saying the customer voluntarily exposed herself to a known risk. Deborah Stinger filed her suit on May 4 against Alton Casino LLC, doing business as Argosy Casino Alton. A pet clinic owner accused of wrongfully terminating a woman after she accused him of breaching an IRA contract argues that he terminated her employment before she made the accusations and that he reimbursed her for any lost IRA funds.
