A doctor denies liability in a medical malpractice lawsuit over infected sutures that allegedly caused a patient’s bowels to drop.
Kristi Nasello filed the March 3 lawsuit against Alton Multispecialists Ltd., OSF Healthcare System, St. Anthony’s Healthsystem, Dr. Catherine L. Wikoff and Dr. Tim C. Kisabeth.
According to the complaint, the doctor’s determined during a follow-up examination that the sutures in the fatty tissue around Nasello’s bowels caused a severe infection. As a result, Nasello’s bowels, bladder and intestines dropped, the suit states.
Kisabeth denied the allegations against him in his June 9 answer through attorney Jonathan Ries of Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard in St. Louis. He claims the alleged injuries were the result of “some conduct other than this defendant’s conduct, which conduct was the sole proximate cause of plaintiff’s alleged injuries or damages.”
Defendants St. Anthony’s Health Center and OSF Healthcare Systems filed a motion to dismiss on April 9 through attorney Edward S. Bott Jr. and Mary L. Taylor of Greensfelder Hemker & Gale in St. Louis, arguing Nasello failed to provide the required affidavits.
Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder later withdrew the motion to dismiss in accordance with the defendants’ request.
Nasello seeks more than $250,000 in damages, plus costs.
Nasello is represented by Gregory G. Fenlon and David W. Horan of Clayton.
