Fall from ladder at Staunton home leads to Madison County suit

A man claims he tumbled more than 12 feet from a ladder after another man holding it allowed it to move.

Stacy Schneck filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Jeffrey Scanzoni.

In his complaint, Schneck claims he was helping Scanzoni with a siding job at his Staunton home on Nov. 14. Schneck had climbed a ladder and Scanzoni was helping secure it when the ladder gave way, causing Schneck to fall 12 feet to the ground, according to the complaint.

Because of his fall, Schneck sustained severe injuries to his back, including two compressed discs; suffered great physical pain and mental anguish; and incurred medical costs, the suit states. He also lost wages and was unable to perform his usual activities, the complaint says.

Schneck blames Scanzoni for allowing the ladder to fall, saying he negligently failed to secure the scaffolding, failed to secure the ladder and failed to use proper equipment to secure the ladder.

In his complaint, Schneck seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1419.
