ILLINOIS - Counties with the fewest black residents liked Vice President Kamala Harris more than they liked Gov. JB Pritzker in 2022. But Cook County with more than a million black residents liked Pritzker more than Harris, according to election results.
Cook County gave Pritzker 73.8% and Harris 69.8%, the sharpest drop in the state.
Wayne County, home of Fairfield with 0.6% black residents, tilted the other way and gave Harris 13.9% after giving Pritzker 9.4%.
Clark County, home of Marshall with 0.5% black residents, gave Pritzker 19% and Harris 23.5%.
White County, home of Carmi with 0.7% black residents, gave Pritzker 15.2% and Harris 19.7%
Wabash County, home of Mount Carmel with 0.9% black residents, gave Pritzker 17.9% and Harris 22.2%.
In the same region Harris scored three to four points more than Pritzker in Crawford, Edwards, Jasper, Jefferson, Lawrence, Massac, Pulaski, Richland and Saline counties.
She scored two to three points more than Pritzker in Clay, Effingham, Franklin, Gallatin, Jackson, Johnson, Marion, and Williamson counties.
The differences diminished farther west but still ran in favor of Harris.
Madison County with 9% black residents gave Pritzker 40.6% and Harris 42.1%.
St. Clair County with 31% black residents gave Pritzker 50.8% and Harris 52%.
Monroe County with 0.4% black residents gave Pritzker 29.3% and Harris 30.7%.
Washington County with 1% black residents gave Pritzker 19.4% and Harris 20.6%.
Clinton County with 4% black residents gave Pritzker 20.9% and Harris 22.8%
The biggest jumps for Harris happened in Western Illinois.
Adams County, home of Quincy with 4% black residents, gave Pritzker 20.1% and Harris 25.4%.
McDonough County, home of Macomb with 6% black residents, gave Pritzker 34.6% and Harris 39.7%
Chicago suburbs didn’t let Harris down as badly as Cook County but they let her down.
McHenry County with 2% black residents gave Pritzker 47.5% and Harris 45.9%.
Lake County with 8% black residents gave Pritzker 60.3% and Harris 59.4%.
Will County with 12% black residents gave Pritzker 50.4% and Harris 49.7%.
DuPage County with 5% black residents gave Pritzker 56% and Harris 55.8%.
Kane County with 6% black residents gave Pritzker 53.7% and Harris 53.5%.
Two counties on the fringe of the metropolis tilted slightly toward Harris.
DeKalb County with 8% black residents gave Pritzker 49.5% and Harris 50.1%.
Kendall County with 8% black residents gave Pritzker 49.2% and Harris 49.5%.
Harris outscored Pritzker in all other urban counties except Sangamon.
Winnebago County, home of Rockford with 14% black residents, gave Pritzker 47.7% and Harris 49%.
Peoria County with 19% black residents gave Pritzker 49.5% and Harris 51%.
Its neighbor Tazewell County with 1% black residents gave Pritzker 33.9% and Harris 35.7%.
Champaign County with 14% black residents gave Pritzker 58.9% and Harris 59.5%.
McLean County, home of Bloomington with 8% black residents, gave Pritzker 49.2% and Harris 51%.
Macon County, home of Decatur with 18% black residents, gave Pritzker 39% and Harris 39.8%.
Rock Island County with 11% black residents gave Pritzker 53.2% and Harris 53.9%.
Sangamon County, home of the Capitol with 13% black residents, gave Pritzker 48% and Harris 46.6%.
The changes nearly balanced out statewide, with Pritzker scoring 54.9% and Harris 54.3%.
