John Papa, long time Madison County attorney, died in St. Louis on Nov. 16, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 73.
Mr. Papa had a long and distinguished career of over 47 years of practice, in the Metro area, as well as venues all over the United States. He was honored as a Designated Legal Counsel for the United Transportation Union, specializing in personal injury cases for railroad employees. Additionally, he was a well-known and successful advocate in the fields of medical malpractice and general personal injury.
His practice also included labor arbitration, City Attorney for both Granite City and Madison, Illinois, school board attorney for Madison, and the Tri City Regional Port. Mr. Papa also served as the Vice Chairperson for the Committee and Character and Fitness of the Illinois Supreme court for the Fifth District.
John Papa was a magnum cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1973, and a 1976 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law. Funeral arrangements are pending.
