Faulty mechanics are blamed in a $450,000 lawsuit lodged against U-Haul International in Madison County Circuit Court after a driver crashed the truck during a cross country trip.
David Sanders, who rented a U-Haul to travel from Florida to Illinois, claims the truck was unreasonably dangerous because its steering mechanism, drive train and U-joints failed.
According to the complaint filed Aug. 4, Sanders lost control, cross the median and crashed on Interstate 24.
He claims disabling injuries, pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages as a result of the accident.
Sanders is represented by Charles Chapman of the Lakin Law Firm in Wood River. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
