Voters in Madison and Bond counties will decide whether to retain Circuit Judges Kyle Napp, Christopher Bauer and Sarah Smith in November's general election.
To win a retention race, judges need to earn at least 60% of ballots cast. Voters are asked a "yes" or "no" question on retention, and while they run via party affiliation in a first election, retention votes are non-partisan.
Napp, who presides in Madison County, was first elected as a Democrat in 2012. She will seek her third six-year term. Twelve years ago, she defeated Republican Thomas Burkart by a margin of 57% to 43%.
She was retained in 2018 with 76.5% of the vote.
Bauer, who presides in Bond County, was unopposed in his first election as a Democrat in 2018. He is seeking a second six-year term.
Smith, who presides in Madison County, was first elected in 2018 as a Democrat. She defeated Mark Rabe by a margin of 55% to 45%. She also is seeking a second six-year term.
None of the three judges seeking retention have established campaign committees.
