Madison County Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeff Connor is the decisive winner in the Republican primary for Madison County Sheriff.
Connor defeated Republican rival Jeff Larner by a 2-1 margin. Connor received 14,619 votes to Larner's 6,954 votes.
"We are very happy the citizens of Madison County have confidence in us to be the next Sheriff," Connor said. "We appreciate all the support that has come our way during this 15-month campaign. We look forward to the future and what we can do to enhance the quality of the Madison County Sheriff's Office and protect the citizens to the best of our abilities."
Come November, Connor is likely to succeed sitting Sheriff John Lakin, Democrat, who is retiring at the end of his term in December.
Connor doesn't have any competition in the Nov. 8 general election as no Democrat candidate stood for the party's nomination in the June 28 primary election.
Connor, of Granite City, has approximately 36 years of law enforcement experience. His career began when he first became a police officer with the Granite City Police Department. He now seeks to serve as sheriff with “experience, dedication, transparency.”
He also serves as the Commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.
He earned a master of science degree in criminal justice from Lindenwood University. He also attended the FBI National Academy, session #244, at the FBI campus in Quantico, Va.
