EDWARDSVILLE — A man with five pit bulls is accused of negligence in a suit alleging the dogs attacked an East Alton woman without provocation.

Nancy Gerard filed a complaint Oct. 13 in the Madison County Circuit Court against John Grant.

Gerard claims in her complaint that on Sept. 28, she was walking on the sidewalk in front of her home in East Alton when five pit bulls owned by Grant attacked her "without provocation." Gerard alleges she was "peacefully conducting herself" when she was attacked and accuses the defendant of negligence.

Gerard alleges that as a result of the attack, she suffered "serious bodily injury and scarring." She also claims she has suffered pain, which has prevented her from "attending to her usual duties and affairs."

Gerard alleges she has incurred and continues to incur medical expenses, including hospital bills.

Gerard seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Lanny Darr of The Darr Law Offices in Alton.
