BELLEVILLE — A shopper claims she was injured when a former Wal-Mart employee struck her with a utility cart.

Jennifer Miller and Larry Miller filed a complaint July 28 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Joy Okojie and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., doing business as Wal-Mart, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Jennifer Miller was shopping at the Wal-Mart on Green Mountain Commons Drive in Belleville on Feb. 8. Miller alleges she was in the freezer section of the store when she was struck by a "fully stacked utility cart" that was being pushed down the aisle by Okojie, who was a Wal-Mart employee at the time. Miller claims she fell to the ground and suffered injuries to her back, neck, head and "other parts of her body."

The plaintiffs allege Okojie was "negligently and carelessly" operating the cart at a "great speed" and failed to use caution and look around to see if customers were in the aisle. They also allege Okojie did not properly stack the cart.

According to their complaint, Jennifer Miller has incurred medical and hospital bills and missed "numerous" days of work due to her injuries.

The Millers seek monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. They are represented by Steven Katzman of Katzman & Sugden LLC in Belleville.
