EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County motorist is suing a tractor-trailer owner and driver following a Lake County collision.

Alexandra McCoy filed a complaint Jan. 11 in Madison County Circuit Court against Mayville Logistics Co. and Patrick Wayne Bertelson, alleging Bertelson is liable under the doctrine of respondent superior.

According to the complaint, on May 4, 2017, McCoy was traveling on Interstate Highway 94, 25 feet north of Lake Cook Road in Lake County, when a Mayville tractor-trailer driven by Bertelson collided with her vehicle. She claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries, both internally and externally.

The plaintiff alleges Bertelson failed to operate the tractor-trailer with due regard to traffic, failed to keep it under proper control and failed to maintain proper lookout.

McCoy seeks trial by jury, damages not less than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorneys Kenneth B. Beljansky and Jaye R. Lindsay of Brown & Brown LLP in Fairview Heights.
