Passenger claims driver was negligent in crash

Car accident 25

EDWARDSVILLE – A passenger in a vehicle, on behalf of himself and two children, is suing over injuries they allegedly suffered as a result of the driver striking a tree. The plaintiff is citing negligence.

Jermain Ross, individually and as next friend of Ariyah Bennett, a minor, and Anndriliyah Jay, a minor, filed the suit April 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alecia Young.

On April 29, 2014, the defendant was driving her vehicle on Calvin Boulevard in Centerville and the plaintiffs were passengers in the car, the suit says.

According to the complaint, the defendant was negligent in the following ways: failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, failing to reduce speed, and driving with inadequate brakes.

As a result of the alleged negligence, the defendant drove her vehicle into a tree, causing serious injuries to the three plaintiffs, according to the suit, which says all three plaintiffs continue to accrue medical bills and have suffered disability and loss of a normal life.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in excess of $50,000 each for himself and the two minor children and court costs. He is represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
