A motorist is suing another driver for allegedly causing a collision when he attempted to pass him with inadequate brakes.
George Shook filed the suit on Oct. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Matthew Barnes.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 4, Shook was driving on Illinois Highway 148 near an intersection. Barnes was following Shook when he allegedly pulled out to pass the plaintiff, failing to reduce speed and failing to stop his vehicle in time to avoid colliding with the plaintiff's vehicle.
Shook also claims Barnes was operating the vehicle with unsafe and inadequate brakes.
As a result, the suit claims, Shook suffered injuries to his head, arm, hand and other body parts and will suffer disability and loss of normal life. He has also incurred property damage and increased medical bills as a result of the collision.
Shook seeks a judgment in excess of $50,000, court costs and attorney fees.
Representing the plaintiff is Michael P. Glisson, Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson of Alton.
