Marion banker sentenced for embezzlement
Laura Lee Marrs, 28, of Carlyle, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Benton, to 18 months imprisonment; five years supervised release, and ordered to pay $110,750 in restitution for embezzling $106,000 from the Southern Illinois University Credit Union.

Contract dispute in court
Pampered Pets in Alton Square Mall Ovella Lange of Silex, Mo. filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court May 12 seeking damages from Godfrey residents Matthew and Jessica Buckingham claiming they defaulted on a $58,307.22 contract.
Alton woman files wrongful death suit
Dr. Earnshaw's Office in Alton An Alton woman filed a wrongful death suit against Charles Earnshaw, Jr., M.D. and Alton Internist Associates, alleging that a misdiagnosis led to her husband's death.

Construction worker Kenneth Fields is suing Jay Henges Enterprises Inc. for spraying a “certain material” which caused him to suffer from folliculitis, dermatitis, malaria rubra and purig nodularis.

Jeffrey Lewis Harris filed a Jones Act lawsuit against Granite City-based Lewis & Clark Marine May 11 in Madison County Circuit Court seeking damages for a hand injury he sustained working on the M/V Karen Michelle.
Carbondale man sentenced on drug charges
Poncevenus Stokes, also known as “Boogie,” 33, of Carbondale, was sentenced May 9 in U.S. District Court in Benton, according to Ronald J. Tenpas, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
