Granite City High School students with State's Attorney Tom Haine | Madison County State's Attorney's Office

A group of Granite City High School students shadowed Madison County assistant state’s attorneys on March 12 as part of a job shadowing program sponsored by the school.

The students spent the morning observing assistant state’s attorneys interacting with defense attorneys during a misdemeanor/traffic docket with Associate Judge Andrew Carruthers presiding.

In the afternoon, the students observed a felony docket for initial appearances and detention hearings with Associate Judge Emily Johnson Nielsen presiding.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine was joined by the assistant state’s attorneys and judges in applauding the students, saying they were impressed by the questions they asked. They also said the students showed tremendous interest in the legal profession and the criminal justice system.

“These are great students with bright futures. They were wonderful ambassadors for their school,” Haine said.
