BELLEVILLE - A patient claims he suffered an allergic reaction to his medication, which allegedly resulted in a heart attack.

The lawsuit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court by plaintiff Kenneth C. Bozsa against Dr. Nidal Shawahin and Fairview Heights Medical Group, S.C., also known as BIC Medical Group of Illinois.

According to the complaint, Bozsa alleges he suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) due to an allergic reaction to medication prescribed by Shawahin in December 2022.

Bozsa claims the doctor failed to recognize his allergy to the prescribed medication and negligently wrote the prescription despite knowing or should have known about the serious health risks it posed to the plaintiff. As a result of the alleged negligence, Bozsa developed an allergic reaction, which led to anaphylactic shock and subsequently a heart attack.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, disability, increased risk of future injuries, and diminished life expectancy.

Bozsa seeks a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any additional relief deemed necessary by the court. He is represented by J. Michael Weilmuenster of Weilmuenster, Keck & Brown, P.C.
