Alton nursing home sued over patient's fall from wheelchair

EDWARDSVILLE - An Alton nursing home patient allegedly fell from his wheelchair while trying to get a pillow that had been thrown at him, a lawsuit states.

The lawsuit was filed by Kathy P. Paulfrey, as representative of Joe C. Paulfrey, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton NH, LLC, also known as River Crossing of Alton. 

According to the complaint, Joe Paulfrey was a resident at the Alton nursing home. During his stay, the suit states that he fell from his wheelchair while trying to pick up a support pillow that was thrown at him by nursing home staff.

The plaintiff claims the nursing home failed to assist Joe in his transfer activities and ensure his environment was free of hazards. The plaintiff also alleges the nursing home staff did not adequately supervise Joe or develop an up-to-date care plan for him according to his needs and physician's orders.

As a result of these alleged negligent acts, Joe suffered a fall leading to injuries, which have allegedly caused him great pain and anguish.

The plaintiffs seek a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. They are represented by attorney Robert Gregory.

The case number is 2024LA000170 and it was filed on February 5th, 2024.
