Rep. Amy Elik (R-Alton) was appointed to serve as the Assistant House Republican Leader for the 103rd General Assembly.

“I’m ready to take the lead on issues that will help make Illinois a better place to live and work,” Elik stated. “I look forward to serving as the Assistant House Republican Leader to help drive policy beneficial not only for the people I represent in the Metro East, but the entire state as well. I am honored that Leader McCombie has chosen me to serve in this position.”

She joins the leadership team of legislators chosen by House Republican Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna).

Elik and McCombie will focus their efforts on restoring checks and balances in state government, addressing key issues that impact Illinoisans, and protecting citizens from government overreach, according to a press release.

“I am proud to add Amy to our leadership team and know that her strong background in accounting, as a member of the Audit Commission and as one of our caucus budgeteers will be a great asset for us to hold the majority party accountable on transparency and spending,” stated McCombie.

Elik, a certified public accountant, was first elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2022.

During her tenure, she has established herself as a fiscal watchdog in the General Assembly, pushing for a common sense, balanced budget and lower overall tax burden on working families, seniors and job creators.

Elik is currently seeking re-election for the 111th State Legislative District, which includes all or parts of Alton, Bethalto, East Alton, Godfrey, Glen Carbon, Granite City, Hartford, Pontoon Beach, Roxana, South Roxana, and Wood River.
