EDWARDSVILLE - As the Democratic Party continues to shrink in Madison County and the Republican Party holds no power in St. Clair County, many offices in both counties will face no opposition in the General Election.
Madison County Campaigns
Republicans in Madison County will choose their leaders through the Republican primary on March 19.
The winner between county board chair Kurt Prenzler and challenger Chris Slusser will face no opponent in November.
Neither will the winner between circuit clerk candidates Patrick McRae and Stephen Adler.
No one will run against state’s attorney Tom Haine, auditor David Michael, or coroner candidate Nicholas Novacich in March or November.
Four Republicans on the county board face challengers in the primary.
District 7 member Michael Turner of Godfrey will run against Linda Ogden of Brighton.
District 15 member Terry Eaker of Bethalto will run against Bob Coles of South Roxana.
District 22 member Ryan Kneedler of Collinsville will run against Linda Wolfe of Collinsville.
District 26 member Jason Palmero of Glen Carbon will run against Douglas Matthews of Glen Carbon.
Winners of all four races will run without opposition in November.
Republicans in District 24 will choose between Fred Schulte of Edwardsville or Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon to replace Skip Schmidt.
The winner will face no opponent in November.
Republican board members Frank Dickerson of Worden in District 3, Paul Nicolussi of Collinsville in District 23, and Chris Guy of Maryville in District 25 will face no opponents in March or November.
Two Democrats on the county board will defend their seats in November.
District 12 member Robert Pollard of East Alton will run against Donald McMaster of Wood River, and District 13 member Matthew King will run against Brynn Kincheloe of East Alton.
In precinct committee contests, 99 Republicans and 53 Democrats filed petitions.
Precinct 9 in Alton holds the distinction of primary competition in both parties.
Bill Stoutenborough and Sylvester Jennings will compete for the Democratic committee, and Michael Batchelor and Terrence Peterson will compete for the Republican committee.
Former county administrator Douglas Hulme and John Hackett will compete for the Republican committee in Edwardsville Precinct 5.
Colin Pruiett and Joseph Reames, both of Glen Carbon, will compete for the Republican committee in Edwardsville Precinct 25.
St. Clair County Campaigns
In St. Clair County, neither party produced a primary contest above the precinct level.
No Republicans will run in November against county Board Chairman Mark Kern, State’s Attorney James Gomric, Auditor Patty Sprague, or Recorder Michael Crockett.
Three Republicans will challenge Democratic holders of countywide offices in November.
Dean Darnall will challenge Coroner Calvin Dye.
Cindi McDonald will challenge Circuit Clerk Kinnis Williams.
Tyler Thompson will challenge Amanda Warma for Board of Review.
Three Republicans will challenge Democratic county board members.
Jessica McClelland will challenge Courtney Moore in District 7.
David Loebner will challenge Scott Greenwald in District 10.
David Lindquist will challenge C. J. Baricevic in District 16.
Republicans Kevin Dawson of District 24 and Matthew Smallheer of District 27 will face no opponents in November.
Republican Michael O’Donnell of District 18 will face a challenge from David Langford.
Democrats Robert Allen of District 1, Ken Easterley of District 9 and Kenneth Sharkey of District 11 will face no opposition.
Democrat Marty Crawford of District 6 filed a petition to run but withdrew it on Dec. 4.
