EDWARDSVILLE – A shopper is suing Walmart after she allegedly slipped and fell on a wet, slippery substance that had been spilled by another unknown customer at the Godfrey store.

Plaintiff Linda Benoit filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Inc. and an unknown Jane Doe, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Benoit was a patron at a Walmart Supercenter store in Godfrey on Apr. 6, 2021. Benoit states that while she was shopping, she slipped on a wet, slippery substance and fell, severely injuring herself. The defendant allegedly informed Benoit that prior to her fall, a Jane Doe had spilled the slippery substance on the floor.

According to Benoit, Walmart negligently failed to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of its customers and negligently failed to contact and speak with the unknown customer about the incident.

Benoit alleges she has suffered injuries to her back, which has caused her to experience disability, pain, suffering, and mental anguish. She alleges her injuries will impact her ability to enjoy normal life. She also claims she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is seeking damages, plus interest, court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Shannon M. Dawson of the Dawson Law Firm, LLC in St. Louis.
