Belt, of Cahokia Heights, was first elected to the Senate in 2018, succeeding James Clayborne after he served more than 20 years in the Chamber.

Belt defeated Republican Tanya Hildebrand in 2018 by a margin of 59-41%.

State Democrat leaders gave Belt's committee close to $1.5 million in the month of October alone.

That support plus $630,000 he received from the party in September raised his total for two months above $2 million.
