EDWARDSVILLE - An Alton nursing home is being sued after a resident with a history of skin wounds allegedly died from an untreated wound infection.

Brandon Shoptaw, as administrator of the estate of Sandra Lee, filed the complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against Evamie Myers.

According to the complaint, Myers is the nursing director at River Crossing of Alton nursing home. Shoptaw claims Lee was suffering from skin wounds when she was admitted to the River Crossing of Alton nursing home in February 2021. After she was admitted, Shoptaw claims Myers failed to provide proper treatment for a wound infection, which allegedly resulted in Lee's death on June 21, 2021.

Shoptaw alleges Myers failed to perform daily skin checks and failed to use proper turning and repositioning to prevent bed sores.

"Sandra Lee did experience personal injury to her body as a whole, including but not limited to sepsis, infections, deteriorating decubitus ulcers/pressure ulcers," the suit states.

As a result of the improper care, Lee allegedly endured pain, anguish, mental suffering and disfigurement, the suit states.

Shoptaw seeks unspecified monetary damages and legal fees. She is represented by Charles Armbruster of Armburster Dripps & Blotevogel LLC in Maryville.
