EDWARDSVILLE — A Godfrey long-term care facility is accused of overmedicating a dementia patient and failing to provide proper, which allegedly contributed to her death.

Pamela Nooner, as independent administrator of the Estate of Carol Morgan, deceased, filed a complaint Oct. 25 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Godfrey Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center LLC and others, alleging wrongful death and other claims.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, Morgan was a resident of the Godfrey long-term care facility from July 23, 2019, through Oct. 30, 2019. Nooner alleges that due to the defendants' negligent care, Morgan became septic, suffered from acute respiratory failure, pneumonia and hypoxia. The plaintiff further alleges that Morgan was unable to make her own decisions due to dementia and that she was severely overmedicated with psychiatric drugs.

Nooner claims the defendants also failed to appropriately monitor Morgan, failed to provide her with nutritional support and failed to recognize the signs of aspiration, which allegedly led to her death on Dec. 1, 2019.

The plaintiff seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Eva Golabek of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
