EDWARDSVILLE — A woman alleges she fell and suffered injuries on rotting stairs at a property in Granite City.

Lindsay Hendrix filed a complaint Sept. 16 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Lawrence Bilbrey, individually, Charlotte Bilbrey, individually, Bilbrey Rental Properties and Bilbrey Homes Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Hendrix was at the defendants' property located on Benton Street in Granite City on Oct. 2, 2019. She alleges that as she was helping someone out of the property, she suffered injuries on stairs that were rotted and in need of repair.

Hendrix claims the defendants were negligent for allowing the tripping hazard on the stairs to exist, failing to inspect its premises and fix the rotting stairs and failing to warn of the hazard. She also claims the defendants violated city ordinances by allowing the stairs to be in disrepair.

Hendrix alleges that as a result of her fall, she incurred large medical bills as well as lost wages.

Hendrix seeks compensation of more than $ 50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Benjamin Tobin of Pratt & Tobin PC in East Alton.
