Retired Judge Crowder to take reins at Illinois Judges Association; Justice Overstreet second vice president

Retired Madison County Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder will be installed as president of the Illinois Judges Association (IJA) during the group's annual meeting on June 4.

At the same meeting, Illinois Supreme Court Justice David K. Overstreet will be installed as second president of the IJA.

The Illinois Judges Association, which represents 1,250 active and retired Illinois state court judges, was founded in 1972 to provide services, support, and education to its member judges and raise public understanding of the Illinois judicial system. 

Crowder retired in 2018 after 20 years as an Illinois state court judge and 17 years as a practicing lawyer. 

She is a past president of the Illinois Judges Foundation. She currently serves on the board of the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois, the University of Illinois College of Law Alumni Board, and is on the Main Street Senior Center Board of Directors in Edwardsville. 

Crowder is a member of the Senior Lawyers Section Council and the Standing Committee on Legislation for the Illinois State Bar Association. She is also a member of the Madison County Bar Association. 

Overstreet was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court last year, having previously served as an appellate and circuit court judge.

He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Jefferson County Bar Association. He also is a youth camp counselor at the Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp, assists Boy Scout Troop 103, is a board member of Lifeboat Alliance, is a deacon at the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, and is a member of the Mt. Vernon Rotary Club. 

Overstreet currently serves on the Illinois Judicial Conference and is the Supreme Court Liaison to the Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice, Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness, and the Supreme Court E-Business Policy Advisory Board.

The Illinois Judges Association also installed other new officers for 2021-22 at the annual meeting. They are: 1st  Vice President, Justice Eileen O’Neill Burke, 1st Appellate District; 3rd VicePresident, Judge Mary Colleen Roberts, Cook County; Secretary, Judge Elizabeth Rochford, Lake County; and Treasurer, Judge Patrice Ball Reed, Cook County.
