Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is suing her former live-in boyfriend, alleging he slammed her to the ground and struck her with a kitchen mixer.

Caitlyn Brooks filed a complaint March 25 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Robert Simmons, alleging assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false imprisonment.

According to Brooks' complaint, she and Simmons were in a "domestic relationship" and residing together at a residence in Pontoon Beach. She alleges that on April 9, 2019, she and Simmons "got into a verbal argument" and Simmons physically attacked her by slamming her to the floor. Brooks alleges Simmons placed his knees on her arms, straddled her, choked her and struck her with a handheld electric mixer.

Brooks claims she suffered "serious injuries and disfigurement" as a result of the attack. She also claims the defendant's actions were willful and "a reckless disregard" for her health and safety.

Brooks seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Ryan Mahoney of Cates Mahoney LLC in Swansea.
