Republican McRae flips Madison County Circuit Clerk position, wins by 9-point margin

Campaigns & Elections

Republican Tom McRae was elected Madison County Circuit Clerk over Democratic opponent Amy Gabriel in a vote of 54 to 46 percent.

McRae, who currently serves as a Madison County board member, received 71,215 votes with Gabriel receiving 60,509 votes.

"It has been a true honor meeting and listening to the citizens of Madison County while running to serve as our next Circuit Clerk," Gabriel stated on her campaign's Facebook page. "Thank you to my family and friends who have been with me every step of the way. I am grateful to every voters, supporter, endorser and volunteer who participated in my campaign. Best wishes to Tom McRae in leading the hard-working team at the Circuit Clerk's office and serving every citizen who relies on the Madison County courthouse."

McRae ran on a platform of integrity, experience and common sense.

As a board member, McRae says he has helped reduce the county property tax levy, increase funding for law enforcement and child advocacy services, reduce the size of county government and improve county roads and bridges.

McRae is a member of the executive committee, facilities management committee, finance & government operations committee, parks and recreation committee, ETSB Board, and is chair of the transportation committee.

Gabriel is an associate attorney with the asbestos firm Gori Julian Law Firm and former prosecutor with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Current Circuit Clerk Mark von Nida, Democrat, announced last year that he would not seek reelection. He was first elected circuit clerk in 2012.
