Woman allegedly injured after slipping on wet substance on dance floor

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims she was injured when she slipped on the dance floor at an event in Smithton.

Meaghan Schoor filed a complaint Sept. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Smithton Turner Society, alleging negligence.

Schoor alleges in her complaint that while at an event at the Smithton Turner Society on North Julia Street in Smithton on Sept. 28, 2019, she slipped and fell on a "wet/slippery substance" that was on the dance floor.

Schoor claims she suffered "serious, painful and permanent injuries" to her right hip and knee as a result of the fall. She also claims she suffered mental anguish.

She alleges the Smithton Turner Society was negligent by failing to place signs in the area to warn of the slippery floor and that the defendant's premises was "not reasonably safe." Schoor also claims the Smithton Turner Society should have "taken corrective action to remove" the dangerous condition or to "barricade" the area.

Schoor seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other proper relief. She is represented by R. Tyson Mutrux of The Mutrux Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
