EDWARDSVILLE — A patient is suing Hillsboro Area Hospital and its medical staff for allegedly failing to diagnose and treat an abdominal abscess.

Deehan Rives and Robert Rives filed a complaint July 31 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Hillsboro Area Hospital Inc., David Weglicki, II, D.O., Clinical Radiologists, S.C., and Jon Wagnon, D.O., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Deehan Rives went to Hillsboro Area Hospital on Aug. 3, 2018 complaining of abdominal pain. While under the care of Wagnon, she had a CT scan, which was read by Weglicki and diagnosed as diverticulitis. The plaintiffs allege Weglicki did not "properly interpret" her CT scan and did not diagnose an abscess in his radiology report. She was discharged on Aug. 6, 2018 without draining the abscess.

The plaintiffs allege that after Deehan Rives underwent another CT scan on Dec. 19, 2018, the new scan and the previous scan were compared. She claims both scans showed the presence of the abscess. The plaintiffs claim the defendants "failed to accurately diagnosis" and treat her condition.

Deehan Rives claims she has suffered "a general decline in her health and overall well-being" as a result of the defendants' negligence. She also claims she has suffered physical and mental pain and has incurred medical costs.

The Rives seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, plus all other just relief. They are represented by James Brandenburg of Brandenburg-Rees & Rees in Carlinville.
