EDWARDSVILLE — Alton Memorial Hospital is being sued after a minor was allegedly given the wrong dose of anesthesia.

Jamee Jackson, individually and as special administrator of the Estate of Kaden Jackson, a minor, filed a complaint Aug. 8 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Memorial Hospital, Genevieve Schult, M.D., and Southeastern Emergency Physicians LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Kaden Jackson was treated at Alton Memorial on Feb. 8, 2019 for a right arm injury "with deformity" and a "displaced transverse fracture of shaft of right radius." The plaintiff alleges that on that same date, Kaden underwent surgery for the fractures in his right hand and was given an excessive dose of Ketamine anesthesia, which allegedly caused him to be "slow to wake up" from sedation and to suffer tachycardia and hypertension.

As a result of his medical complications, he was transferred to St. Louis Children's Hospital for treatment. The plaintiff claims Alton Memorial failed to give Kaden the proper dose of anesthesia and failed to confirm his dosage, which should have been based on his weight.

The plaintiff also claims Kaden suffered pain, aversion to medical care and is now at risk for "permanent brain injury" and "loss of function in his right hand."

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, plus all other just relief. Jackson is represented by Keith Short of Alton.
