BELLEVILLE — A patient is suing a Belleville medical center, alleging she suffered injuries to her heel and ankle following surgery.

Gail J. Edwards and Ronald Edwards filed a complaint on April 29 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Medical Center, doing business as Memorial Hospital, alleging medical negligence.

The suit states Gail Edwards' leg was placed in a precarious position and then she was left unattended in her hospital room following an operation on July 25 and 26, 2017. As a result, she allegedly suffered injuries to her left heel and ankle, as well as other parts of her body.

The plaintiffs allege they sustained medical expenses and impairment to Gail Edwards' earning capacity.

The plaintiffs seek more than $50,000 in damages, plus court costs. They are represented by attorney Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin & Cook LLP in Belleville
