BELLEVILLE — A Swansea woman is suing an eye care business, alleging she was terminated due to her race.

Kimberly Shively filed a complaint March 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Clarkson Eyecare Inc., doing business as Clarkson Eyecare, alleging racial discrimination and violation of the Illinois Human Rights Act.

The suit states during the course of her employment with Clarkson Eyecare, Shivley, who is white, was subjected to a hostile work environment, suffered harassment and was discriminated against. Shivley alleges she was terminated due to her race, despite performing her job to her employer's expectations, leading to a loss of income and benefits.

Shivley seeks attorney fees, judgment in excess of $50,000, and cost of suit. She is represented by attorneys Michael J. Brunton and Mary M. Stewart of Brunton Law Offices in Collinsville.
