BELLEVILLE — A St. Clair County woman claims she was defamed in a Facebook Livestream.

Courtney M. Hoffman filed a complaint Feb. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Carl E. Officer, alleging defamation.

The suit states Officer, who runs a Facebook live broadcast during the week, made verbal statements about the plaintiff on Feb. 21 when he alleged Hoffman had "burned up more buildings and businesses and left town."

The lawsuit states Officer's statements were false and slanderous and were seen by about 4,900 people, causing the plaintiff shame, humiliation and damages to her professional reputation.

Hoffman seeks cost of suit, general damages, special damages and presumed damages, each for $15,000, and punitive damages in excess of $50,000. The plaintiff is representing herself.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 19-L-152
