BELLEVILLE — A St. Clair County man is suing a public transport service provider, alleging negligence and premises liability.

Corwin Nicholson filed a complaint Jan. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Bi-State Development Agency of the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District, doing business as Metro, alleging failure to maintain its premises, including the sidewalks, in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, on July 17, 2017, he was walking at the bus stop at Fifth and Missouri in East St. Louis to board a Metro bus when he tripped over a protruding rebar on the sidewalk and fell. The suit says Nicholson suffered injuries to his neck, back, right shoulder, right elbow and right leg and incurred medical expenses and other damages in excess of $50,000.

The plaintiff alleges Metro failed to remove the rebar that was protruding from the sidewalk and failed to provide adequate warning about the dangerous condition of the sidewalk.

Nicholson seeks trial by jury, judgment greater than $50,000, plus court costs and all other just relief. He is represented by attorney Derek J. Siegel of Kuehn, Beasley and Young in Belleville.
