Granite City accused of denying employee due process

Lawsuits
Wrongful term 08

EDWARDSVILLE — A former Granite City employee alleges the defendant failed to keep a job offer open until it expired by its own term.

Carie Ritchie filed a complaint Feb. 1 in Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City, alleging deprivation of due process.

According to the complaint, Ritchie was given a proposed severance agreement and release related to her employment with the city on July 17. She was allegedly given 21 days to consider the offer. However, she alleges the city then gave her less than 24 hours to appear for a termination hearing and failed to provide her with a reasonable notice of its intent to terminate her.

As a result, Ritchie alleges she has been deprived of the ability to knowingly decide whether to accept or reject the offer.

Ritchie seeks trial by jury, judgment greater than $50,000, plus court costs, attorney fees and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Thomas G. Maag of Maag Law Firm LLC in Wood River.
