EDWARDSVILLE — An African-American employee is suing a Troy business, alleging racial discrimination and wrongful termination.

Michael Minor filed a complaint Dec. 18 in Madison County Circuit Court against Cooper B-Line Inc., alleging his former employer violated the Illinois Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, in March 2018, Minor who worked as a welder, was terminated from his employment allegedly due to his race. Minor says he has suffered loss of employment, lost wages and fringe benefits, emotional distress, anxiety and humiliation.

The plaintiff alleges Cooper B-Line discriminated against him due to his race, subjected him to continuous scrutiny and falsely accused him of illegal possession of marijuana, which led to an investigation and ultimately his termination.

Minor seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney John H. Leskera of Leskera Law Firm in Collinsville.
