Justice Lisa Holder White of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to eight new lawyers on Wednesday, May 7, in the Fourth Judicial District.
The group is among 282 individuals who will be sworn in and admitted to the practice of law in Illinois during bar admission ceremonies held in the state’s five Supreme Court judicial districts. Justice Holder White will preside over the ceremony and the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) will host a reception following the ceremony. The bar admission ceremony in the Fourth Judicial District will begin at 11 a.m. at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield. The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Fourth District Appellate Court Justice Thomas M. Harris. Also speaking will be Erika Harold, Executive Director of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and attorney Ted Niemann, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors. 10th Circuit Court Chief Judge Katherine Gorman will make the motion to admit the class.
The motion will be seconded by 17th Circuit Court Judge Scott P. Robinson. Guests of the Illinois Supreme Court will include Fourth District Appellate Justice Peter Cavanagh, Fourth District Appellate Justice Raylene Grischow, U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough, U.S. District Judge Colleen Lawless, retired U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen McNaught (ret.), 14th Circuit Court Chief Judge Clarence Darrow, 8th Circuit Court Chief Judge Roger Thomson, Eric Lohrenz, Director of Administration of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar, and Kelli Gordon, a board member of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar. All of the candidates have passed the Illinois State Bar Examination and a required ethics examination and were certified by the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness. In addition to Springfield, ceremonies will be held Wednesday in Chicago, Elgin, Ottawa and Mt. Vernon.
