EDWARDSVILLE — A freightliner operator is suing a tractor trailer owner and driver, alleging their negligence caused a crash in Edwardsville.

John Berrien filed a complaint Dec. 12 in Madison County Circuit Court against Swift Transportation Co. of Arizona LLC and Jerry Adams, alleging Swift failed to adequately train Adams in operating a tractor trailer.

According to the complaint, Berrien was parked at Schenker Logistics in Edwardsville on Dec. 27. 2016, when his freightliner was struck by the defendants' tractor trailer.

Berrien claims he sustained severe, painful and permanent injuries to his neck, back, leg and foot, and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Adams negligently attempted to make a left turn without keeping a proper lookout and failed to avoid striking Berrien's freightliner .

Berrien seeks trial by jury, judgment of greater than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin & Cook LLP in Belleville.
