EDWARDSVILLE — A customer claims she slipped and fell on a puddle of liquid at a Granite City supermarket.
Elizabeth Jackson filed a complaint Dec. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court against Schnuck Markets, alleging failure to maintain the store's walkway surface in a reasonably safe condition.
According to the complaint, Jackson was lawfully at the Schnuck Markets store in Granite City on July 4 when she fell to the floor after losing her footing on the slippery surface.
The suit states that Jackson sustained severe and permanent injuries and has been disfigured, leading to medical expenses and lost wages.
The plaintiff alleges Schnuck Markets failed to prevent the accumulation of water and/or liquid on the floor and failed to place warning signs to alert its patrons of the wet floor.
Jackson seeks a trial by jury, judgment in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Ellen R. Burford of Burford Law Office in Granite City.
