EDWARDSVILLE — A man is suing a local park district for allegedly failing to properly inspect tree limbs hanging over the walking path.

David Cotton filed a complaint Dec. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court against the Granite City Park District, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Cotton was walking along Wilson Park in Granite City on May 31 when he was allegedly struck in the leg by a large limb that had broken from a tree.

The plaintiff alleges the Granite City Park District failed to properly and regularly trim the tree limbs to avoid injuring patrons using the park.

Cotton says he sustained severe and permanent injuries that prevented him from attending to his usual affairs and duties and he has incurred large sums of money for medical care and treatment services.

Cotton seeks trial by jury and judgment greater than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Larry A. Calvo of Callis Papa & Szewczyk PC in Granite City.
