BENTON — A photographer is suing a media holding company for allegedly displaying a copyrighted photo from a crime scene.

Christopher Sadowski filed a complaint on Oct. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Block Communications Inc., alleging the media holding company violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Sadowski alleges he is the registered owner of a crime scene photographed in New York City. He claims the defendant reproduced and publicly displayed a copyrighted photograph of the crime scene without authorization.

The plaintiff alleges that as a result of defendant’s infringement, he sustained and will sustain irreparable harm.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages of up to $150,000 per copyrighted work infringed, actual damages, costs, expenses attorneys’ fees and interest and all further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

He is represented by Richard Liebowitz of Liebowitz Law Firm PLLC in Valley Stream, New York.
