EDWARDSVILLE — A Wood River tenant is suing her landlord after the ceiling allegedly fell on her head.

Barbara Feldman filed a complaint on Nov. 1 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Scott Smith, alleging he failed to maintain his rental property in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 8, 2017, she was renting Smith's property located at 158 S. Central Avenue in Wood River when the living room ceiling fell on her head.

Feldman claims she sustained extensive injuries to her head, neck and shoulders.

The plaintiff holds Smith responsible because the defendant allegedly consciously disregarded her safety by failing to repair the leaking roof and faulty ceiling tiles.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs and all further relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by Rodney D. Caffey and Ralph J. Mendelsohn of The Caffey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
