BELLEVILLE —  St. Clair County Ob/Gyn is accused of failing to diagnose a pregnant girl's congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

The complaint was filed on Oct. 15 by Sarah Williams, individually and as mother of Cheyene Williams, a minor who is the mother of Antwon Lyles Jr., deceased. The suit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Specialist in Ob/Gyn Ltd. and Dr. Elliot Wool, alleging that they violated the applicable standard of care in treating Cheyene Williams condition during pregnancy.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on May 17, 2016, Cheyene Williams first became Wool's patient. During her pregnancy, she had a large congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). As a result of the defendant's negligence, her CDH went undiagnosed. Lyles was delivered vaginally and stopped breathing immediately after birth, the suit states.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to discuss the implications of limited versus standard ultrasounds and failed to refer her to a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants for a sum greater than $50,000, plus all other relief deemed just and proper. They are represented by Charles Armbruster and Michael T. Blotevogel of Armbruster, Dripps, Winterscheidt & Blotevogel, LLC in Maryville.
