Laborer alleges lung cancer from asbestos exposure

BELLEVILLE — A laborer accuses several manufacturers of causing his lung cancer.

Maynard E. Kise Jr. filed a complaint on Oct. 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against ABB Inc., Colgate-Palmolive Co., Western Electric Company and other defendants.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured by the defendants. He was diagnosed in 2017 with lung cancer, the complaint states. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and compensatory of more than $50,000 and all further relief. He is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
