BELLEVILLE — Two mothers claim their children were hit by a car in front of Mascoutah High School while walking across a faded crosswalk.

Anieset Carter, as mother of O'Shea Dunkley, and Stephanie Green, as mother of Donavan Green, filed separate complaints on Sept. 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Zachary Thomas and the City of Mascoutah.

According to the complaint, the students were crossing the road in front of Mascoutah High School when they were struck by a vehicle driven by Thomas.

As a result, the students suffered severe injury, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and pain and suffering, the complaints state.

The plaintiffs allege Thomas failed to exercise reasonable care to avoid hitting a pedestrian. They also allege the city did not properly maintain the crosswalk, which was faded and hard to see for drivers.

The plaintiffs seek a judgment against defendants, plus costs and all other relief. They are represented by Matthew P. Young of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 18-L-590 and 18-L-595
