Parents sue hospital alleging child suffered injuries during birth

BENTON — A couple alleges their child suffered injuries during delivery after his heartrate continued to decelerate. 

P.J. Thompson, a minor, by and through his mother Carlie Willis and father Tyler Thompson, filed a complaint on Aug. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against United States of America and Southern Illinois Hospital Services. 

According to the complaint, the defendants did not propelry deliver Willis' child when he showed signs of distress. As a result of  the defendants' negligence, P.J. Thompson suffered central nervous system damages from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, resulting in mental disabilities and loss of normal life, the complaint states.

The plaintiffs seek a judgment against defendants in an amount sufficient to compensate them for their losses, which substantially exceed the minimum jurisdictional amount. They are represented by Joshua A. Hasakis of Hasakis & Hasakis PC in Mt. Vernon.
