BENTON — A man is suing a debt collector for allegedly repeatedly calling his cell phone.

Edward Hagood filed a complaint on Aug. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC, alleging the debt collector violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant repeatedly called the plaintiff's cell phone using an auto-dialer. The plaintiff alleges the tenacious collection efforts invaded his privacy and caused him stress.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of $500 to $1,500 for each violation. He is represented by Joel S. Halvorsen of Halvorsen Klote in St. Louis and Chris R. Miltenberger of the Law Office of Chris R. Miltenberger, PLLC in Southlake, Texas.
