BELLEVILLE — Nearly two dozen manufacturing companies face a lawsuit from a man claiming asbestos caused his cancer.

Herbert S. Harrison III and Sarah Harrison filed a complaint on Sept. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against several companies, including BMI Refractory Services Inc., The Budd Company and Terex Corporation.

According to the complaint, Herbert Harrison III ingested or inhaled asbestos during his career while working with the defendants' products. In May 2018, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, the complaint states. The plaintiffs allege the companies knew about the hazards of asbestos, but did not warn them.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and punitive damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
