Suit alleges MCT bus driver hit girl walking to school

EDWARDSVILLE — A 14-year old girl alleges she was hit by an Madison County Mass Transit bus while walking to school in April. 

Robyn Forbes, on behalf of her daughter Olivia Forbes, filed the complaint on Aug. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court against Madison County Mass Transit District and driver, Janet Spindel.

According to the complaint, an MCT bus driven by Spindel hit Olivia while she crossed the street at Illinois Route 111 and Hawthorne Avenue in Wood River. She suffered broken bones, organ damage and a brain injury. 

The complaint alleges Spindel did not exercise the highest degree of care while driving on a public highway with high volume of children crossing.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and more than $50,000 in damages. They are represented by attorney Lanny Darr in Alton.
