Cellphone use blamed for Edwardsville crash

EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County resident accuses a driver of using her cellphone moments before hitting her vehicle.

Amber Smith filed a complaint on Aug. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court against Shauna M. Parker, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Parker struck the rear of Smith's vehicle while she was stopped on Center Grove Road near its intersection with Esic Drive. Smith claims she suffered injuries resulting in medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of normal life. Smith alleges Parker was using her cellphone to video record herself when the accident occured. 

Smith seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Charles W. Armbruster and Michael T. Blotevogel of Armbruster, Dripps, Winterscheidt & Blotevogel in Maryville.
